Erectile dysfunction

About Erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED), also referred to as impotence, denotes the difficulty in achieving or sustaining an erection. It’s a prevalent condition among men in the UK, affecting most at some point, particularly those over 40.
ED can trigger substantial physical and psychological distress, leading to anxiety, depression, diminished self-confidence, and relationship challenges. Despite its widespread occurrence, discussing ED remains uncomfortable for many. While the sensitivity surrounding ED persists in certain areas, it’s crucial for both men and women to acknowledge its commonality, with effective treatments available if necessary.

Causes of Erectile Problems

Failing to achieve or maintain an erection occasionally is typically linked to stress or tiredness, usually nothing to worry about. If it becomes more frequent, it may be associated with physical health or emotional issues.
ED has various causes, including physical conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes, lifestyle factors such as smoking or excessive drinking, and psychiatric conditions like depression or anxiety. Psychological factors contribute to up to 25% of all ED cases, with stress, guilt, or shame playing a role in some instances.
